How Has Nature Helped You Cope With Recent Stresses?

Hello friends,

How has nature helped you cope with recent stresses?

I was out on my back patio this morning noticing the birds and thinking about how our cats and nature in general have been helping me feel good lately.

Thankfully my husband has been able to work from home and our cats have taken turns sitting with him in his chair or actually in his lap. So every day has been Bring Your Fur Daughter To Work Day. Contrary to some memes going around lately, I think our girls have been happy to have us home. They have gotten to spend most of the day out on the back patio-they don’t seem to have any interest in trying to leave the yard, I guess because they’re pretty old. And I have spent a lot of time out there as well.

I’ve been watching the birds in our yard with binoculars. My father-in-law built a Purple Martin mansion and it has attracted a lot of Martins. They are pretty noisy and sometimes a bunch of them are very chatty. They swoop around acrobatically over the yard and then come to rest on the top of the house or on the porch in front of a nest hole. I have also seen Cardinals, Robins, and something called a Cedar Waxwing-yellow belly with crest on his head. I spotted a woodpecker with a red crest on his head at one of our trees and have been able to watch some hawks “making lazy circles in the sky”. The Martins even dive-bombed a hawk that got too close to their house. We have a hummingbird feeder that has attracted one bird so far. As we were eating outside a few days ago he hovered over us and it seemed as if he was trying to decide whether it was safe to go all the way to the feeder that was nearby, or maybe wait until we were gone.

It has been very peaceful watching these birds and very much like a meditation.

So, how has nature helped you cope lately?
