Guess what? I'm sixty!

Yes, I’m revealing my age. I am hereby officially pushing back on the idea that aging is bad, especially for women. As my dad says about aging, “It’s better than the alternative!”

Lately I’ve been reading and enjoying books by Rachel Held-Evans. If you’re not familiar with her, she was a writer who wrote about religious topics, especially questioning some of the things she learned as a young evangelical (look her up in your local library). I’ve really gotten some great insights from her, and she was pretty funny too. Sadly, she died suddenly a few years ago, at the tragically young age of 37. She left behind her husband, 3-year-old son, and 1-year-old daughter. I enjoy her work so much, and I wonder what other literary treasures she would have been able to write had she lived longer.

Ladies, we can age like fine wine (full-bodied and complex) or like milk (sour). I humbly suggest we choose to age like wine:

· Embrace your wisdom and experience.

· Embrace your body as it is right now-curves, wrinkles, cellulite, sagging, grey hairs, whatever.

· Remember all the people who love and depend on you.

· Remember all the good work you have accomplished in your life.

You are alive, and the world is a better place with you in it!
