I have noticed that these three problems are very often happening at the same time.
So many of my clients suffer from both depression and anxiety that it’s unusual for me to diagnose someone with only one of them. Lack of assertiveness is an epidemic amongst women in general and depressed and anxious women are even less likely to be assertive.
The negative ways of thinking in depression lead to negative thoughts about the future which then lead to anxiety, including the thought that the depression won’t get any better, and that makes the depression even worse—it’s a vicious cycle.
Depression takes away your energy to stand up for yourself. Many depressed people then let things bother them to the point that they explode in anger-then they don’t feel good about that either.
Anxiety can lead to people not standing up for themselves because they don’t know how, or are afraid to make someone else angry at them. Feeling taken advantage of makes both depression and anxiety worse.
I love to work with clients on decreasing or eliminating their depression and anxiety, as well as helping them improve their assertiveness skills. It all goes together--let me help you today!
